A little

About Me

"Perhaps it's Mary Poppins syndrome, but a British Nanny running her own business inspires faith."

As a child I always had a bit of wanderlust (as mother would say) which carried on through my teen years. At the age of 20, after completing 2 years of college, I decided I wanted to travel and pursue a career working with children. As a result, I became a little obsessed with the "Lady" magazine that I found an advertisement for a nanny agency in Toronto. I must admit I knew absolutely nothing about Canada and 'Google' didn't exist in those days, but I set up a meeting with the agency anyways and not long after they had found me a family.

After one phone call, two photographs of their family and waiting 2 months to receive my work permit, I had booked my flight to Toronto.

Needless to say, my mother was mortified as I had only 1000 pounds saved and was headed to a country and family I knew little about. I arrived on December 28th (who in their right mind moves to Canada in December?!?) and my adventure began.

My initial intention was to stay for a year, it's now been 30 and I'm still here! My passion for children, people, and my wonderful employers at the time inspired me to fulfill my dream of opening a nanny agency. I succeeded in Opening Shelly's Nannies in 1998 out of my employers basement and now work out of my own home in Leaside.

I have had the pleasure of working with many wonderful families and caregivers over the years and hope to continue for many years to come.

Finding You The Right Nanny

With todays busy lifestyles, every family has different childcare needs. I have established Shelly's Nannies to bring a personal touch to finding your perfect Nanny. Employer form - Click Here

  • 1Where do we begin?

The family's requirements can be discussed over the telephone, or you can fill out the forms on the site.

  • I go through the process of assessing the nanny applications to find a perfect fit for the family. The candidates have already been interviewed and referenced checked prior to interviews. Resumes are then forwarded to the family for review along with each candidates salary expectations prior to any interviews. Only those suited for the family's needs will be sent.

  • The family will be able to interview the applicant themselves. Following the interview I will follow up with you and the candidates to ensure a great fit and next steps.

  • If the position is offered and accepted by the candidate, I then put together a letter of agreement stating hours of work, duties, responsibilities etc. so both parties are in agreement of contract. Upon hiring your nanny I will be checking in at regular intervals and I will be available to help should any problems arise during the term of employment.
If either party terminates the employment within 90 days of hiring, Shelly's Nannies Inc will attempt to find a suitable replacement without further charge. There are no refunds.

I am pleased to recommend Shelly’s Nannies. I have used her service twice within the past 8 years for my active triplets. On both occasions Shelly sent me qualified and professional candidates. Our first nanny stayed with us for 5 years and remains a big part of our life. Recently, Shelly was able to connect us with a fantastic part-time caregiver who is a great fit for our changing needs. Shelly is thorough and professional and understands the needs of the familys. She offers a valuable service that ensures you are interviewing qualified, capable, and caring Nannies. Well worth the fee for the piece of mind.

I would recommend Shelly’s Nannies as an agency and Shelly herself as an agent to both prospective nannies and families. Shelly has been my agent for approx. 15 years now and when- ever I have employed her services she has given me a myriad of opportunities to choose from with regard to nanny positions. Be it full time, part time, or interim work, all families I have been matched with have been an excellent fit for my personality and the families needs in a caregiver. For top of the line service Shelly’s Nannies is indispensable.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the process take?

The process depends on how many suitable applicants are available for the familiy’s start date and also meet the familys requirements. It can happen as quickly as a couple of days, or as long as a couple of months depending on who is available and finding the right match.

How much does it cost to employ a nanny?

Nannies salaries vary depending on experience and any qualifications. The following is a general guideline based on a 40-48 hour work week Monday - Friday.

LIVE-OUT: $ 750 - $950 net/week

Part-time Nannies are usually paid on an hourly rate anywhere from $20 - $25 net per hour. As an employer, the family will be responsible for registering with Revenue Canada and remitting Tax, CPP, and EI deductions on a monthly basis for their nanny. Families are also responsible for registering with the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB). Shelly’s Nannies can assist you on how to register with Revenue Canada as well as payroll deduction amounts.

Will there be a contract between the nanny and the family?

Once a nanny has accepted a position, Shelly's Nannies will assist the family in putting together a contract to ensure that everything is clear from the beginning.

Where do your nannies come from?

Shelly's Nannies inc. places Nannies from various countries including the UK, Canada, Phillipines, Europe, and the islands.

What type of duties are nannings willing to do?

It is variable depending on the familys needs. Typically there are 3 categories:

- Nurse duty Nanny: All duties pertaining to the children, childrens laundry, childrens meals, keeping the childrens areas, kitchen, and common areas clean and organized
